Product code: 1862 Schoharie NY Railroad President Signed CIVIL WAR shops MILITIA MEDICAL PARDON
24INVREF Up for sale is this rare original 1862 Civil War medical exemption letter from Schoharie county, shops NY. The letter was written by Abraham Pickel with the claim that he is unable to fight in the war due to his age. The letter measures approximately 9 3/4 inches by 7 5/8 inches. The interesting part of the document is the Justice of the Peace, Daniel D Dodge who signed off of the exemption request. Following his public service career, he became a railroad man. He was the late 1960's President of the New York Middleburgh and Schoharie Railroad Company. All in all a really interesting and rare piece of Americana and Civil War & Railroad history. Please look at the scans to note the condition. *note - the last photo that shows the research accounting  for Dodge's railroad history and is not included as a document for this auction - it is a reference point only.
