Product code: Antique Wedgwood octagonal platter late 19th C brown transferware with shops seashell motif, tea stain patina, 11" / 28.5cm Staffordshire pottery

shops A stunning antique octagonal Aesthetic Movement serving platter from the mid 19th century in brown transferware from Wedgwood. Sized as a small platter at 11" / 28.5cm or a large dinner plate, this piece features a very beautiful transfer printed seashell motif and accompanying floral and foliate vining details in a rich brown glaze. A fabulous piece of Staffordshire pottery, patented 'Neptune' and bearing Wedgwood's stamp code for November 1884.

Condition is very good antique condition. Overall body is sound with no chip of cracks. Teas stain patina, light crazing, signs of wear and use including surface scratches from cutlery and one small scrape at the rim. The color of the white ground has turned to a creamy ivory with a tea stain patina, but little patchy discoloration, for a pleasingly aged look.

Dimensions: 28.5cm diameter x 3cm high

Overall this plate displays very nicely while showing signs of its great age. It has a real beauty with its surface glow that comes with the patina of aging, and remains a lovely object to display, use and enjoy.

Feel free to ask any questions :)
