MEMORY OF BIRTH AND CHILDBIRTH
The tree of life refers to the imprint made with the placenta on a sheet of paper after the birth of a child. This practice is often offered to women who give birth with a midwife or birth attendant. The impression is made by placing a paper on the fetal side of the placenta, that is, the part of the placenta that contains the veins. Since most trees of life are made with a fresh placenta, it is the blood of it that makes up the imprint. The shape of the placental imprint, with its veins and umbilical cord, is then strangely similar to that of a tree.
As a graphic designer, I had the idea to create a photo editing service for placental prints with the aim of transforming the footprint into a tree. My work is inspired by the metaphor of the tree and roots, offering you a magnificent memory of pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, it should be noted that the blood of a placental imprint tends to fade over time and the paper that has absorbed the blood can curl. Unlike the original imprints that will deteriorate over the years, my creations transcend time and years, plunging you back into the emotion of your child's birth. The imprint becomes a work of art that you will be proud to display on a shops wall for sentimental and aesthetic reasons. It is a personalized, vivid, emotional memory that also aims to change the popular view of the placenta as a biological "waste" that must be detached from the baby and discarded as soon as possible after birth.
