A lovely old mid century Kitchen/Dining chair painted probably in the 1960's?
The Elm seat was stripped later - I have given it a coat of Danish oil & wax polish
The UtilityFurniture Logo & model number are stamped to the rear of the seat.
The chair has knocks & bumps as shown due to age and some rough paint removal at the base of the spindles. I have chosen to leave this as is, as rustic charm and I didn't want to spoil the look as very difficult to match the old paint.
This model 290 dates from the 1940's and was manufactured as part of the Utility furniture scheme, to support the war effort. The 290 is less refined than later Ercol models than those later versions but the simple elegance means it will look great with other Ercols in mixed styles around your kitchen or dining room table as well as individually as a simple accent chair in your bathroom or bedroom.
