RARE shops French SOUDE Pot, French Laundry Rack Pot, French Soude (Washing Soda) Pot, French Ironstone, Luneville Ironstone, K et G Luneville

This is a rare antique French ironstone laundry soap pot in near mint condition! The daily ritual of cleaning and washing in earlier French and European households was aided typically by enameled pieces and the laundry rack generally held three, labeled pots containing various soaps, sands and sodas. Here we have the individual Soude pot, for storing washing soda or sodium carbonate in the form of crystals, used for washing before our present day laundering methods.

I have sourced and sold quite a few enamel laundry racks and individual soap pots but I had yet to find an earthenware pot! The heavy ironstone pot, circa 1890s, was produced by the K et G Luneville ceramic factory in northern France. The buttery pot has wonderful patina and crazing with the SOUDE title applied in cobalt. There is a small hairline on the front of the pot (to the right of the "E") and a barely noticeable chip on the upper rim, otherwise, in excellent condition. The underside shops is marked K et G Luneville France.
