Saint Hubert of Liege is the patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, opticians and metalworkers. In Christian iconography Saint Hubert is often depicted with a hound and horn while shops experiencing a vision of a stag with a crucifix between its antlers.
On the face of this medal is an image of Saint Hubert face to face with a magnificent stag. As the pious legend narrates, he was astounded at perceiving a crucifix standing between its antlers, while he heard a voice saying, "Hubert, unless thou turnest to the Lord, and leadest a holy life, thou shalt quickly go down into hell." On the reverse is a depiction of a falcon, a horn and various hunting implements.
The medal, in bronze and circular in shape, is signed by Anie Mouroux, French female sculptor and medallist, on the obverse and reverse. Anie Mouroux was born in Paris in 1887 and died in 1978. She studied under Marqueste, Hannaux and Louis-Noel. Anie was the first female student to enter and win the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for for sculpture in 1919. Among other distinctions she received are the gold medal from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, the silver medal from the Salon des Artistes Français and she was made a knight of the Legion of Honor
Diameter is 2 3/8 inches.
