Antique Chinese 19th Century Tongzhi Period Porcelain Small Tea Jar Red 6 Character Seal Mark Chinese Orchids shops Christmas Gift Collectible
Chinese Tea Caddy and marked Tongzhi Period, late 1800s. It is artistically and a very simplistic design which is handpainted with a series of 4 Chinese Ground Orchids in a Gold Colour Glaze and Outlined in Red. The 6 character red Seal Mark indicates this is Tongzhi period made of the Qing Dynasty (late 19th Century, 1861-1874/75). It is hard to make out the rest of the mark as over time it has somewhat faded. This Tea Caddy is unfortunately missing it's lid (you can see in the photos where a lid may have been placed) and has small kiln cracks on the inside. SHOWN IN PHOTOS. There are small pin holes here and there and I count 4 Kiln Stilt marks on the bottom in which to keep the piece off the floor of the Kiln. As this is an Antique, everything is expected with age and wear and use of this piece. Please see all Photos. I could be wrong about the Flowers but from my research these flowers look like the images of the Chinese Ground Orchids I saw.
A very interesting addition to add to your Asian Collection or to use as a catchall for Jewelry, Pens, Pencils, Sewing Pins etc....
