French antique mid 19th c shops shabby 'Nella' sauce dish / footed bowl from Jules Viellard & Co. Bordeaux, c 1870
An exquisite but very shabby example of teh famous Nella pattern from Jules Viellard and Co of Bordeaux. Antique French faience of the highest quality, hand painted over a base of transferware decoration. The small footed dish without its orginal lid was made in French ironstone (earthenware) in Bordeaux France in teh 19th century. In shabby condition but still beautiful, this is a classic French country piece which shows all the signs of a long life.
Elegant oval form with stunning intricate design of birds and flowers. This is a a perfect French country or shabby chic décor piece. Major damage to the rim in the form of a large chip, and showing other signs of the passage of time. The quality of the decoration still shines through ensuring this fabulous shabby chic piece would be beautiful as a centerpiece, fruit bowl, flower vessel, candy dish, or for serving nuts or small cakes.
Other than the lack of a lid, the bowl is in shabby antique condition. A large bite from the rim - see photo 2. Some discoloration and glaze losses, deep scratches and signs of use. A hairline crack of 3 cm at one end of the footplate. The colour is a lovely antique white with tea stain discoloration, and still displays very nicely. This piece would make an excellent fruit or bowl for nuts in shells, or for bread rolls, cakes, etc. It would also be fabulous with a floral display.
Please check all the photos to make sure you are comfortable with the condition before you buy.
