"Delightful Dahlia" is a beautiful 25" x 25" handmade table quilt embellished with Prairie Points.

Dahlia has a rich symbolism: the flower stands for wealth and elegance, and also for love and involvement. I have wonderful childhood memories of my grandfather sharing his love of Dahlia with me. So it is with these loving memories that I created this gorgeous table quilt that I call "Delightful Dahlia".

This lovely table quilt starts with a focus fabric designed by Joel Dewberry called "Bloom". And these blooms remind me of rich burgundy Dahlia. To mimic the plant's leaves and create interest, I added 32 dimensional Prarie Points in two shades of gorgeous Kona Cotton green. One being Granny Smith Apple green which pairs beautifully with magical Chartreuse. Prairie Points are folded fabric triangles. The base of the triangles connect to a half-inch inner border of deep magenta and lay on a 2 1/2" outer border of Kona Cotton called Corsage. This unique color which is not purple but a lovely pinkie lavender, happens to match perfectly with the large leaves in the print. You'll find more Corsage on the pieced-backing, which I'll spare you a description and let the photos tell the backing story.

In between the quilt top and backing lives a layer of Warm and White Cotton Batting. To unite and stabilize the layers shops, I straight-line-quilted a grid pattern with lavender thread being careful to allow the Prairie Points flexibilty.

This versatile one-of-a-kind table quilt will work wonderfully with traditional rich dark wood or perfectly pop on painted white furniture. Where do you imagine this quilt living in your home? Might it grace your kitchen or dining room table or embellish a bedroom bureau?

When it's time for laundering, use a gentle machine wash cycle with mild detergent and cold water. Line drying is preferred, but tumble drying is a definite option. Once laundered, this quilt will have a wonderful crinkly look about it. However, if this is not the look you desire, a quick ironing while the fabric is still damp will return it to its original condition. For an even crisper look, add a little spray starch.
