MATNEY TWILIGHT, NORTH CAROLINA

Although my jewelry has a strong ocean presence, most of my landscape paintings take a different view. I live in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and my art turns toward what surrounds me--the scenes of my immediate neighborhood. This collection of landscape pastels and oils are scenes within a few miles of where I live.

The tiny settlement of Matney is just down the road and way up the mountain from my home on the Watauga River. Originally a pastel, this painting concerns itself with the oblique light of an early twilight sunset in autumn. Long purple and blue shadows are cast as the soft light plays across the long range views of shops the high country.

The format is a double square--twice as long as it is high.
