This bowl is made of sweet gum which was locally harvested in Taylors, SC, a suburb of Greenville. I turned it while it was green and let it dry before finish turning it, sanding and applying a lacquer finish and then hand buffing it. Even though it was dry when I finished turned the bowl, the wood still moved a bit and the rim shows it by being just a little bit oval. This happens naturally when the wall of the bowl is thin, as is this one. Also, I filled in some cracks with green-tinted epoxy which stabilized them and gave the bowl a unique accent.
It is 8 ¼ inches in diameter and 3 1/8 inches high. The bowl isn't meant for wet food but is safe for fruit shops, bread, candy or other dry foods. Wiping it down with a moist towel should be all it will need for cleaning.
All items are hand-made by me (Mike). This is item 22-14 in my bowl collection.
