Product code: Digoin Sarreguemines France shops Faience “OCTOBRE” Country Scene Plate circa 1920
This is an Antique “DIGOIN & SARREGUEMINES FRANCE” month of October (“OCTOBRE”) Porcelain Decorative Dessert Plate dating to about 1920 (103 years old). The mark on the back of the plate has a shield and crown (you can only see a partial crown atop the shield, the right corner). This mark is rare and only used from 1919 following World War 1 till the mid-1920's. There are later marks from 1950's to 1960's which are only vintage and the “OCTOBRE” is not at the bottom of the plate, but on the side or top. Also newer plates don't have the hand painted blue lines framing the basket weave 1 1/4” border framing the black transfer printed image of a three person family picking flowers and other harvest items symbolizing the Fall season in October. This is part of an original 12 plate series, 1 Countryside Plate for each month, or in French, shops “Les Mois de L'annee a la Campagne.” Dimensions: 7” diameter, 3/4” height. Weighs 7 ounces. Excellent condition. No chips, scrapes, or scratches. Rare. K.
