shops This Catchall / Ashtray was made by Blenko Glass during the heights of the Company's prowess, in 1977. Formed in a lovely transparent sky blue, the catchall is epic, having a diameter of 11" and a maximum height of 3.25" Lovely textures throughout, including the halo like rim which appears darker, because it thicker the other glass. The body is intaglio by design with the impressed Birds and Chrysanthemums pressed into the glass's underside. The usable plate of the vessel is smooth, though it undulates in a broad accordance with the decoration below it. The rim is ribbed in that very Mid-Century Modern style: and the shape of the 3 legs/ wells carry through the MCM style.
Blenko first exhibited this item in it's "Blenko 1977" catalog at page 12. It is there named a part of the " Chinese Classics" line and given Model No. 7712. Some have since called it a "Patio Ashtray", because of its impressive size and 7 pounds of weight. Apparently, it was made to accommodate cigarettes and cigars, though I believe its contemporary use is more likely as a catchall or a display table item.
Cheers,
