A lovely Art Deco cocktail shaker by Martin Hall & Co, circa 1920s. This lovely shaker features a hammered texture, a sharp Art Deco style handle and still has its original cork inside the lid as well as the screw cap. Truly a lovely antique shaker that has a magical feel to it.
A bit about this vintage maker: The origin of the firm is in the partnership established in 1820 in Sheffield by Henry Wilkinson and John Roberts who traded as Wilkinson & Roberts. The factory was active at Shrewsbury Works, Broad Street Park, Sheffield with showrooms in London (where they were listed as manufacturing silversmiths and electroplated manufacturers, silver, plated and steel cutlers), Sydney, Birmingham and Glasgow. After WWI and a brief association of interests with Gladwin Ltd the firm went in liquidation and was struck off the register in 1936 (according to another source the business was sold to Frank Cobb & Co in 1931/1932).
Measurements: Approximately 10 12" tall
Hallmarks: "M H Co." and "EPNS" (for electroplated nickel silver aka silver-plated) and "N565" can be found on the bottom of the shaker
Condition: Fair vintage condition with obvious signs of age. We're listing this shaker as "fair" due to the obvious signs of age. The cork in both the lid and sell as the cap is in perfect condition (a rarity for a shaker this age). We like to be thorough about our vintage pieces, so here's a full summary:
1) This shaker has a magical patina to it (that will likely not polish up)
2) There are a few "age spots" to the plating. One on the upper part of the shaker (see photo #8) and another on the bottom base of the shaker (see photo #2)
3) There's wear/plating loss to the interior of the shaker (at the opening of the mouth as well as in the interior/bottom of the shaker)
In short, this shaker is in fair condition. Truly a neat antique piece that displays beautifully.
**Please Note: we typically do not test our shakers for leakage. We offer a variety of vintage shakers (both usable as well as collectible/display only). We are happy to put our shaker through a thorough leakage test (which involves filling it with liquid and rigorously shaking it) -- please message us if you'd like us to test this particular shaker. Cheers!
**On shipping: We take our packaging very seriously and carefully wrap all pieces to ensure safe delivery.
****Important to note pre-purchase: Buyers, please examine all photos carefully as we cannot accept returns due to the fragile nature (the possibility of breakage when being shipped back) of our vintage/antique pieces. Our items are true vintage pieces that might have manufacturers flaws, flaws from age, or imperfections in general from being vintage. We try to explain the condition/description in an accurate and thorough manner but we ask that you please examine all photos carefully and ask all questions before purchasing an item as we are unable to accept returns due to the risk of breakage. Cheers! L~
>>> IMPORTANT UNPACKING INSTRUCTIONS/PROOF OF ORDER ACCURACY & SHIPMENT: on orders with MULTIPLE pieces please note that if your order has more than one item/piece in it (so multiple pieces such as a set of jiggers, cocktail picks, tags, Julep cups, combined shipping orders, etc.) please take care to thoroughly empty the box and unpack ALL pieces which may be hidden in tissue paper, bubble wrap, peanuts, etc. We cannot be responsible if you accidentally throw one of your items away! We WILL be able to confirm with 100% certainty that we shipped ALL pieces in your order as we photograph/document ALL PIECES in the box it ships in along with the buyer's order receipt, shipping label, and tracking number (in case we need to verify that all pieces were shipped once the package has been received).
