This listing is for a very nice original Commodore Dewey water pitcher commemorating the battle of Manila Bay fought May 1, 1898 during the Spanish American War. The pitcher was made by the Beatty-Brady Glass Company of Steubenville and Dunkirk, Indiana. Beatty-Brady made two commemorative pitchers featuring Dewey. This more scarce example is known as the Gridley pitcher because of the phrase under the spout - "Gridley, you may fire when ready." shops (Charles Gridley was Captain of the Olympia, Flagship of Commodore Dewey.) This 42 ounce pitcher is heavily embossed with patriotic iconography. It is in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, flea bites, or stains. The pitcher stands 9 1/4" tall, measures approximately 7 1/2" from spout to handle, and has a 4" base.
