Most Clevelanders don't know that their city can boast not one but two world series winning team's. The Cleveland Buckeyes won the world series of the Negro League in 1945. They were first organized by Alexander wright a hotel owner from Erie PA in 1941. The team had a number of all-star players during the 1940s, including pitcher Gene Bremmer, first baseman Archie Ware, and catcher Quincy Trouppe. Perhaps the best of the Buckeyes was Sam Jethroe, the centerfielder who was the league's most valuable player in 1945. They played games at both Cleveland Stadium and at the old League Park.
