Character backstory:
Everyone knows how brutal and savage lizard men are. How they care for nothing but their next meal. How dangerous their tribes can be for the unwary travelers. Despite being born to one such savage tribe, Oggi is different. Abandoned by his kin soon after his hatching due to the inauspicious color of his scales, the young lizard man would have most certainly perished had not an elderly wandering cleric of Berronar Truesilver picked him up. Dubbing the lizard boy as ‘Oggi', the kind and merciful priestess took him under her wings, teaching him common language as she journeyed from dwarven hold to another. While the savagery of his kin flowed in Oggi's blood, he learned to temper his aggression, becoming a devout follower of Mother of Safety, much to the dismay of many more traditional dwarves.
Barely fluent in common and dwarfish languages, Oggi had hard time making himself understood in shops the highly ritualistic and conservative dwarven society and while he was largely left alone, he could claim to have no true friends besides Frenna, his adoptive mother. When Frenna passed away Oggi was left with no place to call his home. For all their kindness, the dwarves of the Sunstone Pass would not call him one of their own and so Oggi headed out into the world. As fate would have it, not two weeks after leaving his former life past, the young lizard man stumbled upon the gates of a monastery tended by an order of monks following the Centered Breath tradition.
While Oggi could barely communicate with the monks, the order was more than happy to take him in, the young lizard man working at the temple in exchange for food. Little by little, the tedious tasks became lessons, the old abbot teaching Oggi about the magical essence which flows through all living things, or ki as the monks called it. Much to the amazement of everyone, including Oggi himself, the young lizard man turned out to be something of a prodigy, instinctively grasping lessons some of the senior monks had spent months or years on. Yet the life at the tranquil monastery suited Oggi poorly, his wanderlust leaving him with an aching heart every time he watched the sun drift beyond the Shalamay mountains. Sensing his unease, the old abbot advised Oggi to partake in a pilgrimage - a journey through the world so that he could better learn his place in it. Wasting no time, the young monk packed his meager belongings and headed out, bidding farewell to the small community he could call his ‘family'.
