⫸ The symbolism of the cross pendant “Crucifixion. Theotokos Hagiosoritissa”
The cross is eight-pointed and has a movable top part on a hinge. The obverse contains a recess that repeats the eight-point contour, with a relief figure of the crucified Christ inside. Beneath the figure of our Savior, one can see the head of Adam.
The cross uses an iconography of the Crucifixion where the Savior's figure is inserted into the cross, which looks like a cruciform vessel or arc. This enables one to perceive the Cross as more than a method of execution. It illustrates the relationship between the Holy Cross and the Ark of the Covenant, spoken of by the Church Fathers. For example, St. Isaac the Syrian (7th century) wrote: “the unlimited power of God dwells in the Cross, just as it had dwelled directly in the ark the people had worshiped with great awe and fear”. In addition, such an image of the Golgotha Cross is an allusion to the Eucharistic chalice and the baptismal font. This demonstrates a symbolic bond between the Crucifixion and the two principal sacraments of the Church: Baptism and Communion.
The top part contains an image of the Savior not made by human hands, one of the most revered Christian shrines. This icon, which commonly encountered at the top of Russian crosses, alludes to Christ as the Head of the Church.
The reverse depicts the full-length figure of the Theotokos Hagiosoritissa. The Mother of God is shown in a half-turn to the right. Her arms are raised in front of Her chest in prayer. Above the head of the Virgin Mary, one can see an image of God's blessing hand. The lower part of the cross contains the words from the troparion to the Holy Cross in Church Slavonic: “O Lord, save Your people and bless Your domain”.
“Hagiosoritissa” is a miraculous icon, once located in the chapel of Hagia Soros (Holy Reliquary or Tabernacle) in Constantinople. The robe of the Blessed Virgin was stored in the same chapel. The icon is believed to be the best expression of the Virgin's prayerful intercession on behalf of every Christian.
In Russia, a similar template was used for the Mother of God Bogolyubskaya, painted in the mid-12th century.

⫸ Technical details of the cross pendant “Crucifixion. Theotokos Hagiosoritissa”
The cross pendant is crafted from grade-925 sterling silver and decorated with blackening. The top part, except for the icon of the Savior, is plated with 24k gold. So is the outer rim of the cross. The pendant is equipped with a movable top part for threading a cord or chain. Compared to our other items, it is medium-sized, with dimensions of 0.59×1.18 in (15x30 mm) and a considerable weight of 0.23 oz (6,5 g).
